Lost hopes
A middle-aged couple, Nadya and Mihaylo, refugees from Donetsk, buy an old house in the village. Nadya’s elderly mother did not want to move to the capital and remained in Makiyivka.
Nadya and Mihaylo have just sent their only son Andriy to study in Poland, hoping that it would open new perspectives for him in Europe.
The previous owner of the house, Masha, explains that she is selling it after the death of her grandmother due to the need for money. The granddaughter does not warn Nadya and Mihaylo that she left a bunch of family photos and grandmother’s things in the house. The new owners find whole generations of the same family on the walls, old photos of great-grandparents, small children and grandchildren.
Nadya and Mihaylo try to contact Masha and her husband Anatoliy, begging them to take the family heirlooms. But in vain. Meanwhile, Nadya finds unsent letters from the grandmother in the house and realizes that she had been waiting for her children and grandchildren, who stopped visiting her. The neighbour Svyeta, whose old mother was a friend with the deceased grandmother, gives the new owners a letter with a last will, which the grandmother asked to pass on to her relatives, if she would not have seen them.
After long hesitations, the couple reads the letter from grandmother Nadya, and decides to fulfil her last will…
