Lost Whispers in The Distance 2021

A group of Iranian and Afghan refugees who are living in Serbian camps talk about their hopes and perceptions of Europe as if it were a dreamland. Meanwhile a group of Kurdish families is trying to cross the European border illegally. They decide to attempt this by themselves because of the unaffordable demands of the professional smugglers. They refer to this quest of theirs as The Game.

Director Statement

The aim of the film is to show a Western audience the mindset and aspirations of immigrants and to portray how Iranians look at it as an opportunity to fulfill their need for a better life, whereas for Afghans it is a question of survival. It also provides an insight into the reality of the harsh circumstances for those who are about to make the decision to immigrate to the West.

The film unveils the truth about the hardships of the journey of migration and the regression from being a citizen to becoming a refugee. Our goal was to showcase the impact of migration on those who undertake such a journey, which is an aspect often overlooked by news reports and filmmakers.
