Director Biography - Charlie Norton

My name is Charlie Norton and I am a filmmaker from Bridgewater Massachusetts. I am an undergraduate student at Hofstra University majoring in Film Studies and Production. Throughout my life I’ve had an interest in modeling, music, and filmmaking. In my early years I was a child model and appeared on various products, such as Playdoh and Safety First Car Seats. When I was 9 years old I picked up my first video camera and shot my first home movie, from there was no turning back. Ever since then I've been making home movies, short films, skits, music videos and feature films. Many of my projects are found on my website, www.flyingcardproductions.com, and on most social media platforms, school web pages and local business pages. I am very ambitious filmmaker, and I am going to take every opportunity I can possibly get.

One of my favorite forms of film and video is the art of syncing the rhythm of sound and pleasing aesthetics of visuals, creating what is known to most as a music video. When Dario and I approached by rising local artist, Ali O'Leary, to create a music video of her cover of Selena Gomez's "Lose You to Love Me", I was tasked to spotlight her breathtaking voice by inter grading intellectual and psychological imagery. The song is about a break up, not just to a past lover but to a friend or a family member too. The thoughts and emotions can vary, making one feel mentally unstable (which is what Selena's original video does very well). Dario and I wanted to be simple in context, but complex in originality. Can we interpret a message and music video in a different light? Can we manipulate the idea of losing someone who has changed us mentally, but empower ourselves not to look back and accept to keep moving foreword? I think the answer is yes. People blind themselves from the things that bring a negative light to them, but can we take the blindfold off and motivate ourselves to be strong, independent, individuals? When you watch this music video the answer should be clear. We hope you enjoy what we were able to come up with in our visual interpretation of Selena's hit song, as well as hope it emotionally makes an impacts on you.
