Lords of Aruanda - Umbanda and Resistance
Documentary film Senhores de Aruanda – Umbanda e Resistance discusses the religious prejudice suffered by practitioners of religions of African origin, based on the experiences of members of the Tenda de Umbanda Oriental Senhores de Aruanda (Tuosa), an Umbanda Esotérica terreiro established in the city of Esmeraldas , in Minas Gerais.
With a decolonial approach, director Caio Barroso, who is also a priest of Umbanda Esotérica, constructs the documentary's narrative in a way that also assumes an educational character, presenting new perspectives on Umbanda, contributing to breaking paradigms and myths surrounding this religion.
This production was motivated by the T.U.O Priest's Master's Thesis. Senhores de Aruanda, Alcides Silva, entitled "Esoteric Umbanda and its educational process: ways to overcome religious racism".
