Chris Sun has been working in the Australian film industry for just over a decade as a writer, director, producer, and part-time special effects artist.
Chris started out creating Special FX props as a hobby, selling his creations all over the world before writing his first script “Come and Get Me” and directing the film in 2010. Five more films followed along with a string of international festivals and awards.
· Daddy’s Little Girl (2012)
· Charlie’s Farm (2014)
· Boar (2018)
· The Possessed (2022).
Boar went on to become the 5th best-selling horror film in Australia for 2018, cementing Chris as the Australian master of creature feature films.
All of Chris’s films have received domestic and international distribution through companies like AMC, SHUDDER, Umbrella Entertainment, Scream Factory and Universal Pictures Australia.
Chris is currently developing a slate of films to be produced in Australia or abroad with “Dark Moon”, his creature feature next in line to go into production.
This story is truly inspiring and highlights the incredible potential of hands-on learning initiatives like the Sunny Coast Showdown Crew Intensive. The fact that "Loophole" was created in just two days speaks volumes about the dedication of the participants and the professionals who mentored them. Giving aspiring filmmakers the chance to learn set craft, etiquette, and collaboration in such a practical way is invaluable—especially for those stepping onto a film set for the very first time.
The Peregian Digital Hub being the location for this effort showcases the Sunshine Coast’s commitment to fostering a creative and technologically forward-thinking environment. With so many young talents involved, "Loophole" is more than a short film—it’s a springboard for dreams, a showcase of possibility, and a testament to the region's filmmaking potential.
It's a brilliant initiative, and the long credits are a badge of honour for everyone who contributed. Hopefully, this marks the beginning of an ongoing tradition, inspiring many to take their first steps into the film industry.
