Director Biography

Anna has been in the headphone verbatim shows ‘Decolonisation, Not just buzzword’ by Bhuchar Boulevard, ‘The Talk’ by Neela Dolezalova & Kristine Landon-Smith, ‘I walk in your words’ by Kristine Landon-Smith. And also performed in ‘Give me back my broken’ which is an audio immersive tour through the reimagining of a local community space, Uninvited Guests. Anna was also the lead role in the ground-breaking production ‘Summer Rolls’ by Tuyen Do, the first British Vietnamese production to have ever been staged in the UK where she was nominated for an off Westend award for ‘best female actress.’

Director Statement

The film invites the audience to engage with these stories through the unique technique of headphone verbatim which gathers testimonies from living people. Anna Nguyen & Kristine Landon Smith worked with Vietnamese researchers In Hanoi, London, Manchester and Sydney to conduct interviews that lay the foundations of the content of the film. Universal themes emerge through the specific stories of each mother-daughter relationship, and all expose the common need to understand the past.
