Director Statement

Art is poetry in motion. I enjoy studying the art of life, finding stories in the world around me. When working on Memories of Youth, I knew that I wanted to explore the art of human emotion and the relationship between one’s present-day self to their younger inner-child, and the important, soulful connection between the two. It was super important to me that this was a film that was not only seen but also felt. My biggest goal as an artist is to make art that creates feeling and can find a piece within one’s own self that they did not know was there. I’m inspired by the works of artists that create from feeling, because it tells me that their art comes from something bigger than themselves. Artists and collectives such as Bradford Young, Rina Yang, D Smoke, Kendrick Lamar, Frank Ocean, Wong Fu Productions, all inspire me to curate stories that come from within. The beauty of art is each individual has their own unique stories and experiences in life that are just as significant as anybody else’s on earth. Each story is a peak into one part of the bigger picture, and as an artist, it’s important to me to share my part of that one big picture.
