Joel Papp is a first-time filmmaker and film student at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Originally from Massachusetts, Joel has always had a proclivity for the arts, including television, film, music, and literature. His desire to become a writer and filmmaker was inspired by the impressive screenwriting and high-order topics discussed in the Netflix original show "BoJack Horseman." Joel also has a love for both American and British Literature, as "Songs of Innocence and Experience" by William Blake propelled him into the world of reading and writing. Joel loves stories and art that challenge his perspective of the world, and he hopes to emulate that idea in everything that he creates.
With Locked, I wanted to make a film that, first and foremost, made people laugh. The two main characters, Brad and Ian, constantly have absurd conversations that are incredibly entertaining to listen to, so I wanted to share some of those conversations with other people, but in a context that is a little more comical. I desired to take a normally stressful situation and morph it into a funny and lighthearted narrative that everyone can enjoy.
