Loch Ness Film Festival is a small grassroots film festival run as a scottish charity by volunteers that screen entertaining shorts films that are under 15 minutes over a weekend at the end of July each year and we also host a fun guerrilla style filmmaking afternoon.

We aim to screen the best shorts we receive either from our own backyard of the Highlands in Scotland to the other side of the world from budget to no budget.

We do not host any awards ceremonies during the festival but for the first time in 2015 we awarded titles of Best Short Film, Microshort for shorts 5 minutes and under and comedy and the awards were selected by Scottish Movie news and review site MovieScramble, you can find more news and reviews at www.moviescramble.co.uk.

The selected films will be shortlisted on our website and social media in mid to late June with the winners announced live after our Saturday night block of shorts and announced later on our social media sites with prized being large and small badges given to the winners to wear or place of their choosing.

Short Films 15 minutes and under and half price discount for films 2 minutes and under
Deadline for short films is 29th of May 2019
If no submission fee has been paid your short film submitted
will not be watched or considered
We aim to get back in touch with all submitted filmmakers by start of June
to let them know if we are screening their film in July.

Really well-organised festival! It was a pleasure to play at somewhere a little closer to home and give a Scottish audience a chance to see our wee film.

Though we couldn't make it up to the festival unfortunately, we were always kept up to date with what was happening and where our film was up to. Fantastic communication.

  • Really delightful festival in a wondrous location. The warmest hospitality I've ever received at a festival - even though I was suffering badly from hayfever and wasn't as sociable as I would've liked. My girlfriend and I were even given a lift back to our motel to save us paying for public transport. The Scots certainly know how to make you feel welcome, and they can certainly put on a great film festival as well! There was also some unique merchandise available; my hand-crafted Loch Ness Film Festival mug will take pride of place on my shelf. Would love to return in the future!
