LIZ CHARKY is an American filmmaker of Syrian, Sicilian, & Tonawanda-Seneca heritage, collaborating on narrative & documentary films, music videos, & commercials. She is dedicated to telling stories that centralize and elevate underrepresented voices, and loves capturing quiet, honest, and ethereal moments where she can offer her own sensitivity, femininity, and intuition to a character’s experience.
Her cinematography & camera operating have been presented in international festivals including Miami Film Festival, SXSW Panel Picker, Dance on Camera Festival at Lincoln Center, ARFF Barcelona, Reykjavík International Film Festival, among others.
Liz graduated from the American Film Institute with an MFA in Cinematography and is currently an associate member of the Society of Camera Operators. Her creative pursuits have been supported in recent years by Audi/AFI Scholarship, 2022 Telluride/AFI FilmLab, and 2019 Cucalorus Film Festival Dance & Filmmakers Residency.
She holds BA degrees in Film Studies and Dance from Connecticut College, where she studied performance, choreography, and directing with a focus on gender & queer studies.
