Living Borders
For about 50 years, 'mecheros de la muerte' have been burning natural gas in the Ecuadorian Amazon as a consequence of oil extraction. The substances emitted by the burning are highly toxic and, besides contributing to the environmental devastation of these areas, are one of the main causes of the increase in cancer cases.
The film shows how this system has transformed the relationship between local communities and the jungle and aims to give a voice to the resistance movements that have arisen in opposition to the extraction activities.
