Most of us in contemporary society are a few steps away from living in poverty, especially when not counting on a safety net or support system. This can happen anywhere, even in the tech hub of Waterloo Region in Ontario, Canada. Despite this danger being so close to us, society tends to discriminate, belittle and ignore those who fall into poverty and struggle to survive and enjoy the most basic rights.
The stage play "Living Below the Line" was born as a means to give voice to different individuals who experience poverty in the Waterloo Region and tell their stories. This film opens up a deeper level of communication by allowing audiences beyond the Waterloo Region to be present onstage with the people who live and perform these stories.
