Shelbi Jay has worked in fiction, non-fiction, virtual reality, and now animation since graduating from USC in 2012. Her work has never been limited by any medium or genre, instead, she chooses to work on projects that tell stories that will make a difference.
This past year, she decided to go back to school to focus on her true passion: telling natural history stories. She earned her M.A. in Wildlife Filmmaking from UWE Bristol and now plans to pursue a career creating media of all types that educates and connects children with the natural world.
Before completing her M.A., Shelbi managed a local television newsroom, their evening coverage winning a regional Emmy in 2018, and their half-hour special on breast cancer survivors earning a nomination in 2017. Before venturing into news, she was an associate producer on the Sundance featured virtual reality project, Project Syria as well as the documentary based Interacting with Autism website.
Every day more scientifically backed evidence is coming forward about animal intelligence, emotions, and social lives. We have proof that they're more like us than we ever knew. If children can learn this early, they'll grow up more empathetic to the diverse world around them.
