Welcome to Lit Laughs International Comedy Film Festival, an IMDB qualifying annual Event with a Prestigious awards ceremony held in the very heart of Yorkshire in Harrogate every August.

As well as guest judges we will also have live stand up, music and of course the awards themselves. There is also a bar available all evening and there will also been plenty of opportunity for networking.

Lit Laughs, a company formed early 2018 by Velton J Lishke a Comedian and film producer with an aim to promote and celebrate the world of comedy by rewarding talented and funny work regardless of budget and location.

In 2022 Michael Bray a successful Horror author joined the team to help take the festival to the next level.

Dates for the 2024 Live event will be Saturday August 3rd and will be held at The Manhattan Club, Beech Avenue, Harrogate HG2 8DY UNITED KINGDOM from 18.00 – late.

This year we will be doing a run of 5 day screening in various bars situated around Harrogate, these screenings will be showing all the finalists.

Awards & Prizes

All official entries and Semi Finalists and Finalists will receive a Laurel.
3rd place and Runner up will receive a Laurel and certificate.
Winners will receive a trophy , certificate and laurel
We will select certain films that did not make the top 3 as Honourable Mentions for which they will also receive a certificate as well.

Trophies will be awarded to all winners of each category on the night, if you can not attend we will mail to you anywhere in the world for a small postage fee.

We will also award Best British Comedy and Best International comedy , all entries will be automatically entered in to this at no extra cost .

How we operate our festival may be a little different to others so here is how it works

Official Entry - this is our first round, this means you are now competing in our festival against all other entry's in your chosen category (this does not mean your project will be screened).

Semi-finalist - if you are lucky enough to progress from Official entry then you will move up to been a Semi -Finalist (this does not mean your project will be screened).

Finalist - if you progress to our finalist stage, you project will get a screening and you will also be invited to our live awards event where you will compete to be the overall WINNER

Work can be submitted from any year as funny does not have an expiry date

For screenplays - Features must be over 50 pages
- shorts must be over 10 pages up to 50
- micro shorts must be over 1 page up to 10
- Web screenplays any length

For Films - Features must be over 50 mins
- Shorts 10 - 50 mins
- Micro shorts 0-10 mins
- Comedy Horror Shorts 0 - 50 mins
- Pilot episode 0 - 60 mins

NB : ALL NON ENGLISH FILMS MUST CONTAIN SUBTITLES IN ENGLISH TO BE ACCEPTED

    It's certainly a lovely festival. The organisers are genuine, good-hearted people. I received an Honourable Mention for my short script, but was told in person by one of the judges that "that was my favourite one," so there was that added frankness that means a lot to writers.

    Vinton is personable, helpful and gives his all to make the festival valuable to everyone. The final event provided some great in-person networking opportunities. Vinton put the time in to set up my Imdb page for my short comedy Shine On. That's an extra couple of miles he put in there.

    I had so much fun with this festival and I’m not just saying that because my film won runner up BEST Rom Com! Venton and Mike are super professional and amazing at staying active with emails and posts and letting everybody know what’s going on and answering questions even on Facebook! They have so many different awards to give out and give everybody an opportunity. So glad I entered Dysfunctional Dating! Do not hesitate to enter this festival. It is legit a good time and great experience! I’ll definitely be entering another film again sometime in the future!
