Listen to Her Singing
As an ethnic minority with a spoken dialect but no written language, the Dong people believe that “if you can speak, you can sing.” For the sisters of Huanggang village in Guizhou province, singing forms their deepest bond.
Most of these women have become mothers in recent years, staying in the Dong village to give birth and raise their children. However, in the near future, many will leave their families to work in big cities as migrant workers, earning money to support their children.
Yet, no matter how far they go, the romantic legends woven into the Dong choirs, passed down through generations, remain an inseparable part of their identity.
This film is entirely in the Dong dialect.
