Lisa
'Lisa' is the first music video created, produced and directed by the band Dead Writers: a cinematic literary fantasy filled with visual symbolism, empathic depth, colourful characters and vibrant aesthetics that bring to mind 1920's cabaret and Dostoyevskian underworlds, with healthy doses of Peaky Blinders and Rocky Horror Picture Show.
The song is based on said Russian author's novel 'Notes From The Underground', and tells the tale of isolation and resilience of Lisa, a woman trapped in a life of prostitution. Whilst the lyrics deliver a sort of letter from her despondent client, the 'Underground Man', the video shifts the focus onto Lisa's story, thus reframing the original narrative in the book, whilst creating dramatic contrast as the band brings the joy of live music into the shady yet brothel where Lisa lives, symbolising her redemption and eventual road to freedom.
