Lios an Uisce / Water's Edge
Lios an Uisce (Water’s Edge) is a haunting, immersive dance film that explores the delicate balance between nature, history, and human progress.
Set in the historic surroundings of Blackrock Park, Dublin — a place where land and sea once intertwined, and where the iconic Martello tower stands as a silent sentinel of the past — the film delves into the profound impact of climate change, rising tides, and coastal development of Ireland's fragile coastline.
The ancient rhythms of the tides are mirrored by the graceful yet urgent movements of the dancer, as the natural world faces the threat of rising seas and human intervention. The evocative sound of the cello creates a stirring melodic landscape that underscore the struggle between conservation and change, while imbuing the film with a sense of quiet, undeniable urgency.
The interplay between choreography and composition creates a dialogue between body and environment, capturing the deep sorrow and hope that coexist in the face of climate crisis. It confronts us with the question of what it means to preserve the spirit of a place in the face of inevitable change.
Lios an Uisce is a Creative Ireland funded project for the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Heritage Office.
