Arantxa Pellme, 27, studied Film at the Federal University of Santa Catarina and graduated in 2022. Lilac Line is the result of her final undergraduate project and it marks her debut as a fiction short film writer, director and producer.
"Lilac Line" happened because a feature film was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. It started as "Chaos" in 2019, a road movie centered on a hitchhiker, but as a student film, the production was totally dependent on the University and was on pause for 2 years as Brazil had one of the worst lockdowns. At the time, we had 20% of the film already shot. I had to move from Florianópolis back to São Paulo and so, in 2022 I decided to rewrite the story and turn it into a short film with the scenes from 'Chaos' as memories. The main actress and a smaller crew agreed to shoot the new scenes in São Paulo and I took over all editing, post production and music along with Italo Zaccaron (who was already the DP) and, finally, we were able to transform that frustrating reality with our creativity.
