Stephen Kimani is a filmmaker, living in Nairobi, Kenya. He is currently studying in the university of Nairobi. Stephen has had a passion for filmmaking since he was 7 years old. In 2020, he made Enforcers, a 48 minute feature shot during the pandemic. His aim is to keep making films as good as possible for the rest of his life.
Liminal Phantom was inspired by some of the writings of Neil Gaiman, especially the Sandman. I wanted to create a story where the main character is a cosmic being, unstuck from time and could experience lives by interacting with the liminal spaces existing in the past and future, not seeing the people as they are all in the present. The animation is directly inspired by Alberto Mielgo's work, especially from his most recent shorts. The house occupant is pretty much a version of myself. Everything that happens to him are events directly from my life. Even though I have not gotten the relieving ending my surrogate got, it has helped me at least get a momentary carthatic release.
