Liisa Halloran is a writer, actress, and director driven by the messed up world around her to create films which speak to the 21st century human experience. With a dark sense of humor and love of genre filmmaking she is particularly interested in the aftereffects of the internet on our political life and how to find quiet amidst the overwhelming noise. She has a passion for writing female-driven narratives and exploring themes of surveillance and power. Hailing from Boston but unfortunately lacking the accent, she hopes to tell stories that make her Bostonians proud (though she may never come up with something as good as “How bout them apples?”). On a serious note–her love of acting and multicultural background have left her enamored with exploring the different complexities of life and characters across race, nation, gender, and class. Her desire to push boundaries and make her audience think allows her to create complex characters and find empathy in even the most trying of circumstances.
