Christine Parshall is a filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. She specializes in production design and color grading but would eventually like to start directing her own works. She enjoys working on large projects with equally large crews and, as a student at Pratt Institute, has an eye for art and design. She has conceived and directed two narrative, two nonfiction, and three experimental films during her time at Pratt and aspires to being a professional director and production designer.
My name is Christine Parshall and I am a queer narrative filmmaker. I am currently specializing in production design and post-production aspects like color-grading and editing. I love to tell stories that are a genuine dive into complex characters and relationships. Heavily influenced by my catholic upbringing, I am motivated to tell stories about internal struggles and societal pressures. Growing up with my veterinarian ophthalmologist grandfather and my architect father, I have a visual fixation on eyes and a motif and structure. I am visually drawn to antiquities- items that have a lot of historical context and especially love using items of special familial value to me. I do not like to use modern technology in my on screen, in the mis en scène, so stripping my work of branded and time specific items is very important to my visual aesthetic, as well as using tight lenses and intimate shots. Suspending my audience in time and space is incredibly important to me as an artist as it allows the audience to remove themselves from their material world and exist with the character in this separate world while they watch. Recently, I just finished my first major narrative work called Light Sanctified, about a young queer woman who is struggling to find room in her life for both her queer and religious identity. I hope to revisit and further expand upon this specific topic later.
