Life work of Akira Kurosawa

150 hours of documentary video on Akira Kurosawa's Ran, recorded in 1984-1985, have been discovered. The entire footage, which was shot in close contact with Kurosawa for a year, was lost for many years due to various mishaps. It was discovered in 1998. The old reproduction machines were out of date and could not be played back. At the time of 1984, Kurosawa made Ran, saying it would be his last film, and shot it efficiently in one scene and one cut with three cameras, which gave him ample rehearsal time with the actors. This documentary film reveals the secrets of the human Akira Kurosawa and the fascination of all the films he directed.

Director Statement

The good and passionate personality of Akira Kurosawa is to be read from his appearance on the set of the film Ran. He is not the same person as the legendary 'Emperor Kurosawa'. I want people to know that Ran was a film from the viewpoint of God, lamenting the foolishness of the human world that has never stopped war. Kurosawa's filmmaking style is unique, but his directional techniques can be applied in many ways to today's low-budget films.
