Experiencing Interruptions?

Life On Cam

An uplifting documentary that takes you into the community of people who live on the river Cam.
While the city of Cambridge swirls around them in hyper drive, we meet Gareth, Kate and their teenage daughter Beth, musician Neil and philosopher and entrepreneur Jason and explore a unique ecological lifestyle that challenges what is "home" , what is normal and what is important in today’s society.

Director Biography - Luke Redrup

Thoughtful and creative director and creative storyteller guiding actors' performances and onscreen visuals. A collaborative visionary with vast experience directing every creative aspect of a film’s creation, from development to post-production throughout the last three years of elevating my craft.
I feel I have transformed from a naïve and inspired fan of film and media that had little knowledge about the technical skills and use of technology required to achieve completion on great productions, into a confident and skilful creative with the knowledge and people skills to bring the visions of myself and others to life.
This is evidenced in my latest endeavours directing a heart-warming and inspiring documentary film about boaters in my local city with a passion for alternative living, whilst aiding award-winning friends and colleagues on their productions by adapting to various significant film crew roles. I am aspiring to continue to use my developed skills and ever-growing knowledge to productively support fellow passionate storytellers to create high-quality and ambitious forms of film and media that have the potential to reach large audiences and create a positive impact, in the near future.

Director Statement

As the director of this project, it was exciting to have the opportunity to use the medium of film that I love, to shed light on an aspect of the popular city of Cambridge that many do not experience, and many may not be aware exists.
The potential to uncover stories of individuals with a passion for alternative living is both intriguing and enlightening as everyone sees the world from their own perspective and we aim to capture genuine moments that allow us, the film crew, and the audience, to reflect on our own lives with appreciation whilst developing an admiration for theirs.
In addition, the message that I wanted to convey with this film is the beauty that comes from living on a boat.
The film briefly tackles the highs and lows of this lifestyle however the film does an effective job of highlighting the freedom that can be experienced when people are faced with less financial and other forms of day-to-day stress.
The beauty of this film, I feel, is highlighting how similar the audience is to the contributors despite having nothing in common with them on the surface and that makes me feel proud as the director.
