Director Biography - Jenny De La Fuente

Jenny De La Fuente is a filmmaker born in Mexico City and currently residing in Austin, Texas. Chilanga at soul, Austinite at heart.

A professionally Meisner-trained actor under Laurel Vouvray with over ten years of experience, Jenny graduated as a "Spotlight Student" from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts in Theatre.

Since her graduation, Jenny acted in over a dozen short films, two feature films, multiple commercials, two web series, a handful of theater plays, and the acclaimed Amazon Prime hit show "An Unknown Enemy" directed by Gabriel Ripstein.

Her insatiable creative hunger and self-starter mindset have led her to dive into the production side of filmmaking, with "Hina" being her debut short film as a writer, director, and producer.
Since then, she has expanded her education by taking several filmmaking classes at The Austin School of Film and earned a filmmaking certificate from NYU Tisch YellowBrick Program.

She has directed two dance videos, and three short films, and is currently in post for the web series "New Me" co-directed by Jenny and Chiara McCarthy.

Her most recent achievement was raising 20k for her short film "Somewhere You Feel Free" currently in post-production. A film she wrote, produced, and starred in directed by Sarah Joy Byington.
Jenny is currently in development for a YouTube channel in Spanish whose mission is to liberate the conversation around sexual health to empower and educate female-identifying Latinas.

Always active in her community and a member of WIFT Austin, Jenny has been a part of several film projects in the Austin area, often jumping back and forward between roles as talent and crew, but is self-declared "an actor at heart".

A social butterfly, in her free time she enjoys attending film community events, and film festivals, doing yoga, and taking a dip at Barton Spring Pool.

Director Statement

When I first read “Letting Go”, a script beautifully written by Tai. D Le, it was so clear to me that this film was about surrender. The universality of grief, with its high highs and low lows sneakily filtering the way we perceive reality. This film tells the story of what it means to lean into the pain of accepting losing something, or someone, without the assurance of things being brighter on the other side. It was important for me to show, through the acting and coloring, the resistance that comes with letting go of a loved one and the extreme force of bravery that has to be present for a person to allow themselves to take a leap of trust into the unknown in the hope of a brighter future, or perhaps just a lesser pain.
