Director Statement

Letters from Antarctica is a story about white lies. Unable to face causing her little boy pain, a mother hides the truth about his father’s death and invents the story of the father’s participation in an Arctic expedition. The moral conundrum provokes adverse reactions in many of us but the aim is not to judge the main character. Our goal is to cast some light on the effects that Diana’s decision has on her child’s psyche and on her own life.
Diana’s dilemma does not stem from external factors, from circumstances or the other characters. Her only enemy is her own fear of pain. She is the one who creates the obstacles on her way and who complicates her relationships with people.
She has to isolate herself from everyone in order to essentially protect the lie.
