Lettera di un Sicario

The man who became a Hitman is a shadow - a ghost lurking in the darkness, silently watching his prey as time ticks by. He is a predator, a feline, hunting by instinct because it is in his nature. He does not concern himself with distinctions between good and evil—for him, there is only the victim and the client.
Then, one day, everything changes. He is given an assignment that unsettles him: his next target is Marco, his best friend from the past.

Marco met him during the Italian Liberation, when they were still
young and dreaming of rebuilding their country. A unique, deep, and
restless bond of friendship formed between them, one they believed
would last forever. They saw themselves as mirrors of each other,
reflecting both their dreams and their deepest fears. Marco became
the embodiment of change: a democratic revolutionary, a shepherd
ready to protect people from the wolves. The man the crowds would
remember.

The Hitman, on the other hand, was never able to fulfill his
aspirations. He felt trapped in his own futility, powerless and even
envious of his friend’s success. So he made his choice: to become a
wolf, determined to take revenge on life and, deep down, on Marco as
well. He chose to destroy rather than (re)build.

The Hitman is writing this letter as a confession to Marco, who is both its recipient and the reason for his final mission: the reckoning he has awaited for twenty-five years. In his own way, he has become a revolutionary too, but on the dark side of history - the side he has always felt he belonged to.

This film is narrated through archival footage from AAMOD, filmed between the 1940s and 1970s. It is a journey through Italian history, intertwined with the rise and the fall of a unique friendship, the one between Marco and the Hitman.

L’uomo diventato Sicario è un’ombra, un fantasma che osserva le sue
prede nell’oscurità mentre il tempo scorre. È un predatore, come un
felino, che caccia per istinto, perché è la sua natura. Non si perde in
distinzioni tra buoni e cattivi: per lui esistono solo la vittima e il
committente. Ma un giorno tutto cambia. Gli viene assegnato un
incarico che lo destabilizza: la sua prossima preda è Marco, il suo
migliore amico del passato.
Marco lo aveva conosciuto durante la Liberazione, quando erano
ancora ragazzi col sogno di ricostruire il proprio Paese. Tra loro era
nato un legame d’amicizia unico, profondo, irrequieto, destinato – così

pensavano – a durare per sempre. I due si erano scoperti come
specchi l’uno dell’altro, riflettendo sia i sogni che le paure più
profonde. Marco era diventato l’incarnazione del cambiamento, un
rivoluzionario democratico, un pastore pronto a difendere le persone
dai lupi. L’uomo che le folle avrebbero ricordato.
Il Sicario, invece, non aveva mai saputo raggiungere le sue
aspirazioni. Si era sentito bloccato nella sua velleità, impotente,
persino invidioso del trionfo del suo amico. Così aveva fatto la sua
scelta: trasformarsi in lupo, deciso a vendicarsi sulla vita e, in fondo,
anche su Marco. Aveva scelto di distruggere, non di (ri)costruire.
Il Sicario sta scrivendo questa lettera come una confessione a Marco,
che è il destinatario, ma anche come preparazione alla sua ultima
missione: la resa dei conti che attende da venticinque anni. Anche lui,
a modo suo, è diventato un rivoluzionario, ma dalla parte buia della
storia, quella a cui ha sempre sentito di appartenere.
Questo film è raccontato attraverso materiali d’archivio dell’AAMOD,
girati dagli anni Quaranta agli anni Settanta. È un viaggio nella storia
italiana, che si intreccia con l’evoluzione e la fine di un’amicizia
unica, quella tra Marco e il Sicario.
