Letter

When Lily thought that she has already lost all the expectations of life and try to suicide, she received a letter and travel back to 5 years ago.

She travel back to the time she was writing that letter and meet her best friend Nancy. Lily is so shocked because she knows that Nancy would commit suicide a few days later after they finishing the letters. So she tried everything to prevent Nancy from suicide. And Lily has also recalled that how beautiful her life could be during that period. Eventually, Nancy open her heart to Lily and gave up on suicide, but died in a car accident. Lily woke up in shock and find out it was just a dream.

But then she receives another letter from Nancy wrote from five years ago. The letter tells Lily about all Nancy’s feelings, decisions, and her thanks to Lily. After reading the letter from Nancy, Lily disburdened herself from her guilt and decided to be strong to live for herself.

Director Biography - Jialing Wang

Jialing Wang was born in Hainan, China, a beautiful island famous for Hainan chicken. She got her first camera in Junior high school, since then, she started to capture everything she found interesting in her life with her camera. Her bachelor's study was focused on international Communication at the University of Nottingham in Ningbo, China. She also joined a micro-film studio during her spare time. She has made several short films with talented young filmmakers at the micro-film studio during her time at school. like a fish finally gone in the water, a sense of personal achievement that was absent before in her life came to her while she making films. She found unprecedented joy and finally realized that film is her passion. After her undergraduate studies, she began studying for the program of Master of Moving Image at the University of Sydney and has gained professional film-making knowledge.

She is now working for NetEase Games in Hangzhou. As a photographer, she collaborates with animators to create a unique blend of animation and live-action. The animations they are making have gained 6 million followers in douying (Tik Tok China). In the future, Jialing will keep producing great content for the audiences and will continue learning to better herself.

Director Statement

Jialing Wang‘s favorite film is Memories of Matsuko(2006) by Tetsuya Nakashima, she loves the style that combines the sad atmosphere with colorful settings in the film. Under the influence of her favorite film, she enjoys using the saddest tone and dark humor in her film. Nonsensical style is also her favorite. Her work often emphasizes the unique sensitivities of female characters. She identifies as a feminist and is willing to speak up for all the women who are being unfairly treated. She is currently working on a film that denounces the unfair social phenomenon of Chinese parents preferring sons over daughters.
