My mother passed away a month after being partially diagnosed with cancer in 2020. She was a fierce and compassionate woman who also strongly supported my creative endeavors. One of the last things she told me was to keep making movies.
For the last 14 years, I wrote and directed projects that were about other people, exploring and researching different lifestyles and challenges. "Let Me Rest" is the first project where I'm pouring a lot of myself into it. It's intimate. Messy. Vague. Sarcastic. It's a piece of me, my siblings, and my mother.
I tried to envision a scenario where my mother and I didn't have proper closure, where my upbringing with her, though complicated at times in real life, could've pivoted in a completely different direction where we became estranged. "Let Me Rest" is that "what-if?" scenario.
