Director Biography - Don Winkler

Ever since I was a kid, I knew that I wanted to be an artist. Specifically what kind of artist, I did not know. My interest in film began with the TV series Face Off. I wanted to create sets and costumes, but both were of no use without a story to be told. My focus quickly shifted to writing and cinematography. I've been developing my skills as a filmmaker since I was 12 years old, and still have an overwhelming amount of things to learn. I intend on pursuing the art until the day I die.

Director Statement

Lens Caps is a personal story, as I often find that I would rather spend my time locked in my room, working on music of films, than with friends of family. I think there are many societal expectations which can be incredibly unhealthy for many people. Success is defined by money and prestige, when in reality, success is living happily within your means. So many people pursue a "rewarding career" at the expense of happiness. People are expected to settle down, and have a family. I hear time and time again that I will change my mind about not having kids. It is not that I don't want kids, I do. I have just decided not to. At some point I would like to find love, but my passion comes first. i do not believe that it is selfish, because I would be doing someone a disservice to involve myself romantically, because if it does not make me happy, I could never return the affection that was given to me. It is better to whole-heartedly serve yourself than to half ass trying to make someone else happy.
