Legendary Children History Month 20 Curzon ScreenTalk

With the world spinning in turmoil, hard-won rights are rapidly being wiped away at the stroke of mindless Presidential decrees, the work of an ignorant vandal. But the spinning stopped for two hours in London in March for a historic public appearance by some of the most formative figures in UK LGBTQ+ and human rights over the last 50 years together on one stage.

As part of the celebrations of Schools OUT 50 year and 20 years since they set up UK LGBT+ History Month (celebrated every February across the UK), held the national finale of the annual February month-long initiative at the Curzon Bloomsbury cinema, screening LGBT+ and human rights films LEGENDARY CHILDREN [ALL OF THEM QUEER] and THE FRAGILITY OF FREEDOM. Legendary Children's extraordinary cast of humanitarians and pioneers were there to meet the audience and reflect on then and now.

ANGELA MASON CBE was Director of Stonewall 1992-2002, driving the groundbreaking organisation to play a pivotal role in changing history and achieving sweeping LGBT+ equality legislation in the UK of the 90s and early 2000s. PETER TATCHELL (Hating Peter Tatchell, Netflix) has a serial habit of impacting upon history as one on the world's most recognisable and phenomenally effective human rights campaigners. RAINER SCHULZE was a key member of Gay Liberation Front especially in its 2020s reformation and founder of unique youth education programme The Dora Love Prize, quite literally a crucible for the human rights defenders of the future. ROZ KAVENEY is both respected Oxford poet and popular author of international fan favourites like Reading the Vampire Slayer: The Complete, Unofficial Guide to Buffy and Tales From the Forbidden Planet - and one of the UK's original, always fearless, trans activism pioneers. TED BROWN is a human rights activist working for both racial and LGBT+ equality and the subject of TED & NOEL (Happenstance Films, IRIS). SUE SANDERS is the co-founder of LGBT+ History Month, Hate Crime campaigner, co-founder of UK LGBT+ History Month and CEO of Schools OUT. Schools OUT Chair and Diversity Hero LYNNE Nicholls hosted the ScreenTalk.

The cast of Legendary Children, for those who seek to oppress or restrict our liberties, form a formidable array of opponents and have a track record of winning...in the end. But their sheer humanity shone through in this rare ScreenTalk appearance all together. If you want to meet a legend...

The joint International Committee for LGBT+ History Months, of which there are 22 across the globe have just issued a chilling joint statement, "The eradication of books, knowledge, records, and groups never ends well, and the Trump administration's actions embolden others around the world." But watch out, Donald, that's also a call to action...

Director Statement

If London buses tend to come along in twos or threes, extraordinary history makers like this most certainly do not. So this was a rare treat for the Curzon Renoir audience, up close and personal with remarkable individuals whose very currency is humanity and the preservation of its liberty. An honour to work with them all, on Legendary Children itself and History Month 20's finale event. The now global LGBT+ History Month movement co-founded by Sue Sanders suddenly could not seem more important in 2025 with shockingly repressive Executive Orders from Trump seeking to block young LGBTQIA+ people's access to education on our legacy, affirmation and vital information. Where Trump leads other malign forces will now follow...
