Texas State Senator Roland Gutierrez travels from Texas to Colorado and back again to answer one question, "Why not Texas". Through his journey he meets veterans and medical refugees who have fled Texas to find healing with cannabis.

Director Biography - Nicco Vasquez

Nicco Vasquez hails from the Southside of San Antonio, Texas. He attended the Film School of San Antonio at Harlandale High School. In 2012, Nicco directed the bone chilling micro-thriller, Crumbs, which won the Young Filmmaker's Award at the Austin Film Festival. Nicco pursued his studies and earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin Radio-Television and Film Program (Class of 2017). Nicco currently resides in his hometown, San Antonio, where he works in commercial and political video production. Most recently Nicco directed Legalize Texas: Making the Case for Cannabis (2021), which he hopes will break the stigmas of cannabis legalization and allow Texans to return home.

Director Statement

If Legalize Texas can inspire one person, if it can educate one person, if it can kickstart one conversation, I consider the film a success. My hope is that people see the courageous people in this documentary and feel compassion and a strong desire to bring these Texans back home.
