Learning from the Tropics
“Learning from the Tropics” is a performative documentary filmed in 2021 and produced in 2023 by Iris C. M. Frank, an Austrian designer who travels all the way to Costa Rica to join Refugio Tinti, located in La Gamba, a village in the Costa Rican region of Puntarenas, to immerse herself in daily life and discover various environmental restoration methods. The film shows a group of workers, Esteban, Max and Mauricio, practicing permaculture. Iris films a series of practices performed by these workers ranging from Mexican Sunflower, Biochar, to Hot Compost making process.
