Director Biography - Emily Tomkinson

My name is Emily Tomkinson, and I am a 21 year old Film graduate from Bournemouth University. My home is a small town near London called St.Albans. I've always had a 'thing' for film, since the age of about 9 when I used my first mobile phone to create stop motion films using the camera. Kill Bill: Vol 1 has remained my favourite film since I was 7 (Thank you mum for ignoring that particular film rating). I love art, sports, music, travelling and enjoy capturing all these things in film and video so that others can experience them.

Director Statement

During my second year at University, I couldn't wait to get my hands dirty and make a mockumentary. I love the way it can blend fiction and reality so perfectly to create ridiculous yet somewhat accurate situations. 'Learning to Live' was my first attempt at mockumentary filmmaking and the challenge of writing and directing this particular genre brought me laughter, delight and the occasional (weekly) meltdown. This film inspired a capability of writing that I didn't know I had and sparked a love for mockumentary filmmaking that has continued since this project.
