Laveau
LAVEAU
originally performed live by Dezi Sole’y and directed by Margo Hall, is a performance ritual that explores the legacy of Marie Laveau, Louisiana’s most infamous Vodou Queen. Through song, dance, pilgrimage, reverence , story-telling and ritual, all are welcomed into a lineage of mysteries that both catalyzes the spirit of the Queen and reveals a higher calling.
This is a revival, the first line jazz funeral, a celebration and a rebirth of new/ old understanding . The piece has evolved with spiritual dramaturgy in New Orleans at the sites of Laveau’s home and some of her sacred rituals locations. Originally presented as a live ritual performance, this iteration has been adapted , reshaped and remixed to share via a virtual platform. This premiere is a culmination of this particular stage of discovery . This is a living ritual, growing and breathing into her own being.
