Laura Mitchell grew up in a small rural city in Louisiana. She went to a local university originally wanting to be an animator for Disney, but her art department was more gallery based, so she started doing weird little stop motion animations inspired by her newfound heroes Jan Švankmajer and the Quay Brothers.
Moving to Chicago in 2012, she focused on building a freelance business around video marketing to pay the bills. This made her versatile in producing, filming, and editing marketing films.
Because writing has always been a passion, she took screenwriting courses to learn the craft, slowly summoning her courage to put "finger-to-keyboard." Then, the pandemic happened, and instead of collapsing into existential dread, she finally started writing scripts and couldn't stop.
