Laura Dyan Kezman is an award-winning director, DP and editor. She’s a contributing video journalist for The Washington Post and NBC’s TODAY Show, as well as the founder of LionArt Media — a women-led documentary film and content studio that specializes in visual storytelling.
Before starting LionArt, Laura worked for media organizations including National Geographic, Discovery and Al Jazeera English while based in Washington, D.C. She was later hired by Radio Milwaukee to launch and direct their video department where she shot, edited and produced an expansive library of documentary content. That content included four long-form documentary series on topics ranging from the history of Milwaukee neighborhoods to the foster care system, as well as a feature-length documentary about segregation in Milwaukee, Invisible Lines, which premiered at the Milwaukee Film Festival in 2018 and continues to screen across Southeastern Wisconsin as an educational tool for diversity and inclusion programs. Laura is also an inaugural recipient of the Brico Forward Fund and currently serves on the board of the Milwaukee Filmmaker Alliance.
In both her art and commercial work, Laura is known for a rhythmic, intimate and empathetic style, one that brings her subjects to life and opens her audience’s eyes. Her signature style weaves in illustrative design elements as a way to add clarity and cadence, something she achieves by working closely with LionArt's innovative team of motion design artists who share her ambition to push boundaries in the filmmaking arena.
In all of her roles, but particularly as the leader of LionArt, Laura is on a mission to increase representation in the film world — especially behind the camera — and to use her platform to create opportunities for underrepresented aspiring filmmakers.
