Lim Jing is an aspiring director and screenwriter. She has recently completed her studies in Film under the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) programme at LASALLE College of the Arts, graduating with a major in Directing (Fiction) and a minor in screenwriting.
She has recently directed her final year short film in 2020, “Late Bloomer”, a slice-of-life drama about an old photographer who persists in her photography passion even as her eyes begin to fail her.
Her style in filmmaking veers more towards lighthearted and comedic tones as a form of escapism from real life. She strives to tell stories that stand out from the crowd and thus is not afraid to experiment with different ideas and concepts. Outside of film school, she continues her passion for storytelling by writing scripts for future passion projects and is constantly finding opportunities to build her body of work as a director.
Late Bloomer is about a woman in her later years persisting in her passion for photography even as her eye begins to fail her. The story raises a question: Do dreams have an expiry date?
The film focuses on the tension of the pursuit of dreams and realities of mortality.
The main character faces the reality of pursuing her ambition at an old age. She is diagnosed with glaucoma which alludes to death. Losing one out of her five senses is an unnerving experience yet she still persists in doing the thing that she loves. Life doesn’t end when you’ve hit your 70s or 80s. It ends when you breathe your last breath.
This film aims to be an inspiration for people to dare to live out their dreams and give hope to the aged who have yet to fulfil their goals. Motivating people to seize the moment and live life to the fullest.
