Director Biography - Hamit Başar Yıldırım

He was born in Ankara Yenimahalle in 2002.
Hamit Başar Yıldırım is a young director in his final year of undergraduate education at Erciyes University's Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema.

In his first year, he demonstrated his talents in the field of voice-over by winning first place in the Süleyman Çetinsaya Media Awards 2022 with his voice-over on the radio program “Gündem Çocuk”. During his four years at university, he improved himself in the field of audio narration by working on voice-overs, podcasts, and radio programs.

2024; In his third year, he gained significant experience in both technical and organizational areas by working as a sound director and production coordinator on the short film “İz”. He aimed to bring a different perspective to cinema projects by combining his interest in visual narration with his auditory skills.

Başar, who has just started his cinema journey, aims to address ordinary events in daily life from a different perspective through short films.

His first short film, “Son Posta,” humorously and dramatically tells the story of Ercan, a young cargo worker, about his misfortunes on his first day at work and his struggle to cope with his sense of responsibility. Offering a gripping visual story, this film impressively presents a small human story within the hustle and bustle of modern city life.

Başar had the opportunity to develop himself both technically and narratively with his first film and gained significant storytelling experience. Başar, who wants to explore human behavior and different aspects of society with character-oriented stories in the future, aims to bring his works to a wide audience, especially through short film festivals.

Director Statement

“Son Posta” was a project in which I set out to draw attention to the stories of small people lost in daily life. I aimed to humorously approach the first day of work through an individual’s struggle for a new beginning in life and the difficulties he faces.

The character Ercan, who is at the center of the film, represents the misfortunes that many people can experience in daily life. Instead of dramatic intensity, I aimed to convey these unfortunate moments in a style that would make the audience think and smile. The symbolic meaning carried by the packages coincides with the individual’s responsibilities in life and their efforts to cope with these responsibilities.

The visual narrative in the film was supported by symbols to deepen Ercan’s story. The red coat Ercan wears represents troubles and misfortunes while emphasizing his difference and the inner conflict he experiences in a monotonous world surrounded by cold colors. With this color choice, I aimed to add both a visual and emotional dimension to the character’s story.

This project is not only a storytelling project, but also the first step of my directorial journey. While creating “Son Posta” I had the chance to learn new things both technically and artistically. I hope that viewers will discover the humor and humanity behind the little mishaps we encounter in life through this film.
