Affeq Idrus, a 23-year-old film directing student at UiTM, is fueled by a profound passion for storytelling through the art of filmmaking. Graduating with a diploma in film from UiTM in 2021, Affeq continued to pursue his cinematic journey by enrolling in the Bachelor of Film (Hons) Directing program at UiTM, where he delves deep into the realms of filmmaking and film theory, honing his skills and expanding his creative horizons.
During his academic journey, Affeq garnered invaluable experiences through internships, where he played crucial roles such as behind-the-scenes photography, second camera work, and production assistance. These experiences not only enhanced his technical proficiency but also provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the filmmaking process from different perspectives.
Affeq's directorial style is notably inclined towards the horror genre, drawing inspiration from chilling classics like "Evil Dead Rise." However, for his latest short film project, he ingeniously infused elements of comedy to create a universally appealing narrative that resonates with diverse audiences.
While this film festival submission marks Affeq's debut on the festival circuit, he remains steadfast in his pursuit of excellence and is poised to make a lasting impact with his unique storytelling prowess and cinematic vision.
"Last Job" is a comedic horror short film that delves into the theme of responsibility through the eyes of Borhan, a food delivery man who encounters a series of mysterious disturbances during his last delivery of the night. The storyline unfolds as a result of Borhan's neglect of his duties due to his relentless dedication to work.
The core theme of responsibility resonates throughout the film, highlighting Borhan's struggle with complacency and neglect of his familial and religious obligations. The juxtaposition of mundane job responsibilities with elements of horror adds depth to the narrative and engages the audience in a thought-provoking exploration of work-life balance.
Inspired by renowned director Mamat Khalid, known for his expertise in blending comedy and horror, my vision for "Last Job" was to create a captivating and entertaining experience for viewers while subtly conveying the importance of mindfulness in all aspects of life.
Filming "Last Job" presented unique challenges, particularly due to the nighttime setting and the use of a cemetery location. Despite the eerie atmosphere, I ensured a smooth production process by maintaining vigilance and overseeing the dedicated efforts of my talented crew.
In terms of audience engagement, I aimed to appeal to a wide demographic, from young children to older adults, by incorporating elements that resonate with different age groups. Additionally, leveraging popular music trends added a contemporary flair, attracting the interest of the current generation.
Ultimately, "Last Job" is not just a film but a reflection of the universal theme of responsibility, cleverly intertwined with humor and horror to create a memorable and impactful viewing experience for audiences of all ages.
