Lawrence Wells has written three historical novels, Rommel’s Peace, Rommel and the Rebel and Let the Band Play Dixie (Doubleday/Bantam); scripted a Mississippi ETV documentary, “Return to the River,” which won a 1994 Emmy for Best Regional Documentary, and received the 2014 Faulkner-Wisdom gold medal for narrative non-fiction at the Words and Music Competition in New Orleans. His memoir "In Faulkner's Shadow" was published September 15, 2020, by University Press of Mississippi. Wells' screenplay "Selling Will's Testament" was awarded the WRPN.tv's gold medal for best screenplay. On April 23, 2021, Wells’ script “Rolling Stone” was judged Best Comedy Screenplay at the 2021 Paris Independent Film Festival. Wells' creative nonfiction "Ghostwriter: Shakespeare, Literary Landmines, and An Eccentric Patron with a Royal Obsession" will be published in 2024 by University Press of Mississippi.
