Director Statement

As is seen in Largest, I have now dealt with dermatillomania for around half of my life. I can remember how relieved and overwhelmed I was when I first learned I wasn't the only one going after my own skin, the largest organ of the human body. What I and many others experience is, in fact, a scientifically defined disorder. Then, a few years later, I discovered the artist Liz Atkin who was my biggest inspiration for such a project. My aim with this piece has been to educate and introduce alternative approaches to healing/coping such as art. By creating this work, I hope I can further add to the conversation on dermatillomania and increase public awareness and understanding of it.
