Intimacy, connection and human vulnerability on camera.
Lara Rippinger is a director with a unique, multicultural perspective. Born in Luxembourg, raised in France, and with Dutch roots, Lara’s upbringing across multiple countries has shaped her understanding of the world as both an intimate and global space. Her academic background in political and social sciences has cultivated a sharp, analytical approach to understanding human behavior and societal structures, but it is her transition to filmmaking that has allowed her to explore the more poetic and intimate sides of the human experience.
Despite being a new filmmaker, Lara's passion for cinema emerged spontaneously, driven by a desire to move beyond the rational, sanitized perspectives of academic life. She is fascinated by the often-overlooked nuances of daily human interaction and strives to capture these moments with sensitivity and depth. Her work is deeply concerned with social issues and abstract concepts, yet it is always grounded in the rich, romanticized reality of human connection. For Lara, filmmaking is a means to connect with others on a deeper level, to explore the beauty of human vulnerability, and to capture stories that reflect the essence of life itself.
Lara’s first foray into filmmaking came during a two-month documentary course at MetFilm School in Berlin, where she created her debut documentary, Strangerography. Though this marks her initial experience in the world of cinema, the process ignited a passion far greater than anything her previous academic studies could offer. Strangerography is a reflection of Lara’s desire to fuse her scientific background with a more introspective and intimate approach to storytelling, creating a narrative that is both intellectually engaged and emotionally resonant.
With a keen eye for subtle human moments and a deep respect for the stories often overlooked, Lara is committed to creating films that place connection and intimacy at their heart. Her work seeks to fill a gap in the current cinematic landscape, offering a more poetic and humanistic vision of the world.
