Jesús Rodriguez "Chiva" is a Mexican Director/Producer born in Monterrey, México; he produced music videos for Mexican artists such as Celso Piña, Control Machete, Kumbia Kings, Jumbo, Alejandro Fernandez, Elan, Miguel Bosé, Límite, etc. After a while growing his experience on set, he started directing himself and starting other projects of his own that would be consolidated later on. He's made music videos for national and international artists such as Cartel de Santa, Belanova, Bronco, La Mafia, Los Bunkers, Amigos Invisibles, El Otro Yo, Les Butcherettes, Here comes the Kraken, División Minúscula; to name a few. He extended his work out from Mexico to USA, Spain, Colombia and Argentina. He's been nominated for several awards including MTV Latino Music Awards, in which he won Video of the Year on 2008.
Parallel to his work on music videos he made some experimental films, and there he found the incentives to explore on independent movies. His Opera Prima was released in 2015, also nominated for Best Opera Prima in PECIME's Awards in Mexico; "Los Jefes", a movie about Mexican Sicarios Los Zetas, along with the music of Hip-Hop band Cartel de Santa.
In 2017 he release "MetaFilm" his second feature but really his Opera Prima, the flick was made just by two persons, got selected in 12 festivals all around the world, winning Best Cinematography and Best Feature. In 2018 he shoot his third feature "Off-Side" which is on last details of post production. Recently he worked on a Documentary about Mexican singer Valentín Elizalde, which still on progress.
To me, filmmaking is about telling stories but also denouncing reality. Life is too good on it's own with it's imperfections, controversies, cultural values and differences, shocking real life events that not even the greatest story tellers could think about. I like transgression, uncomfortable feelings, questions, the street culture, raw images, hard contents that can make you want to get up your seat and leave, or stay and change that part of you who felt emotionally unstable in front of a visual content. I also like fantasies, and the contrast they can have within reality, symbolism and unconscious information.
