La place du village

When the only McDonald’s in North Marseille is threatened with closure, its employees decide to resist. They stay in the building, reappropriating the existing architecture and taking its function into the hands of the community. In its place they create a social, autonomous space; a space which stands in direct response to the years of neglect the neighbourhood has suffered at the hands of French politics. Weaving together scenic observations with the narratives of the protagonists, the filmmakers capture a snapshot of this multilayered place. A portait of an unconditional village square.
