Director Biography - Jakari Derrick Lawrence

Jakari is an animator, who is a entry level, Animator/Voice actor attending College of DuPage, in DuPage County Illinois. At his current position, he is a freelance graphic designer, and fulltime student trying to reach a B. S. in animation. Jakari is a student attending COD for five years, learning multimedia and animation.

Director Statement

Skies Ring:  Lans Unwanted Waiting is an animated short capturing a moment between two characters named Lan and Kana. This story takes place in an uncharted area in sky space weeks after the ship desperately escapes a pursuing federation fleet through a (worm hole) tempest stream, severely damaging their vessel. The crew is hard at work trying to get the ship back in cruising condition, despite lack of materials. All for except Lan, who spontaneously concocted a sentient blob, using said materials in a imprudent manner. Thus banning him from any assistance he may give. Days past and he's really bored and decides to pester his crewmate Kana.

What I am as a artist is that I'm enamored with storytelling. Be it creating a connected universe or something mínoot within its own setting. Right now this is a small simple interaction between characters despite the obvious strange world around them. The film is just a small humorous moment and what a young man will desperately do to find something to do.

In a way you could say that the film is about patience. If you beg and ask for something-constently negging for what you want; you'll get it, but not exactly in the way you desired. So, sometimes it's best to not to be impulsive.
