Born and raised in Penang, Malaysia. Chuah Jie Xie studied film production in Taiwan and most of her works are based on own life experiences. Her graduation short film, Lanny is a semi- autobiographical film.
I have always been a person who are not so good at expressing emotions with words. There are a lot of things I want to say, but sometimes it could be so hard or I don’t know how to express. Facing with your own feelings is easier said than done. Whereas loss and death, are both very difficult topic in life, one shall meet again after facing the continuous cycle of separation.
"Lanny" is a semi-autobiographical film that attempts to discuss grief and lost childhood. For once, I did not escape, fear or cowardice, still wandering in place, waiting for an opportunity to relieve, so I somehow found it. If you do get any consolation from this film, do remember, we will hold onto each other.
