Director Biography - Robert David Duncan

My core training in acting is from the Stella Adler Studio in New York. I love acting and filmmaking and Vancouver where I now live is a beautiful place to make films. I am interested in the dramas, delights, passions and heartbreaks that take place in everyday interactions (or lack thereof) between ordinary people. Most of my films have dealt with human-scale issues such as tough choices, love, dreams, hope and finding meaning and fun in life. I love an underdog story! My motto is don't let anything get in the way of telling a story that might uplift someone - film it with your smartphone if that's what you have, but get it done and share it with the world.

This micro short came from some footage I had shot of a lost toy in Stanley Park. Actually we had noticed the toy several weeks before and we had decided to leave it there in case its owner might retrace their steps looking for it. One time we passed by and the lamb had been placed on top of a wooden post, looking rather heroic, if filthy, in the sunlight.

When I took a look at the footage, I worked up a simple narrative and recorded it with my new studio microphone. It was a good opportunity to keep testing out the microphone and the new audio recording software I have been using. Enter "Lambkin the Magnificent" - an unreconstructed megalomaniac who can never have enough...

This film fits nicely into a thematic cluster of micro shorts I have made over the years, including "King of Kings" "Bad Teddy" and "Undocumented" which all feature once high-flying toys with big dreams that are temporarily (or permanently) down on their luck. There's something inherently sad about abandoned toys that makes for great material, and it's rare that I can pass by one without wanting to grab some footage!
