Hailing from Long Island, NY, Laila is an Afro-Latina filmmaker with a B.A. in Playwriting and Screenwriting from Purchase College, SUNY, now pursuing an M.F.A. in Television Writing at Stony Brook University. She specializes in writing coming-of-age stories emphasizing complicated relationships bound by family and friendship.
The Paley Center for Media named her to the inaugural class of "future visionary television executives" under the prestigious Peter Roth Internship Program. She covered groundbreaking series at The CW Network as the Current Programming Intern and was selected as one of five filmmakers for the YoungArts at Sundance Ignite Program. Laila is an alumna of the Warner Bros. Discovery Access Early Career Bootcamp within the National Association of Latino Independent Producers cohort. Additionally, she received a full-ride scholarship to The Gotham EDU Film and Media Career Development Program, where she completed a pitch deck for her award-winning feature, Green Edge Park. Most recently, she received a YoungArts creative grant powered by SunChips to support her web series CLOUT.
