Director Statement

I created this project, Laddoo, singlehandedly, while in town for a wedding. Growing up in Indore, I witnessed firsthand the cruel subjugation our people brought upon these animals. I remember the boys on my street wielding fistfuls of stones, winding up their arms and tossing them towards the frail dogs, crying with laughter as they ran away yelping. We were all victims, in a sense—victims of the perceptual blanket draped over the country. "When you see a stray, you must hurt it before it hurts you."

Working on this film has opened my eyes to the damage that our culture has brought down to these helpless creatures. I followed them on the streets, sat down with them for hours, and wandered through alleyways with them by my side. They knew not but love, and I hope that through this film, the rest of the world will realize that as well.
