"Kayla Sullers is a cum laude graduate of Grambling State University, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication. As one of the less than 1% of Black female cinematographers in the United States, she is a renowned filmmaker who has received recognition for her work from various publications, including the Chicago International Film Festival's CineYouth, WTTW, and the Museum of Science & Industry's Black Art Exhibition. Kayla's career in the film industry began as a camera intern on the set of FOX's popular television series, Empire. She then worked as a Digital Utility and Digital Film Loader on various productions such as Candy Man, Snow Fall, Shining Girls, Power Book IV: Force, Love is Blind, and more.
Kayla is the proud owner of Beauty Beyond The Lens, a production company where she independently produces impactful projects. She excels in music video direction, using it as a platform to creatively collaborate with artists, transforming their music into compelling visual art. Her portfolio includes work with musicians like Willyynova, Jay Loud, G HOVA, Galaxy Francis, and more."
"As a filmmaker, I’m constantly seeking ways to showcase joyful, vibrant portrayals of people of color on screen. My goal is to challenge the conventional narratives often shown to audiences about my community. With this visual, I wanted to leave viewers feeling energized, uplifted, and cheerful. The use of bold, popping colors and nostalgic elements elevate the song, bringing a fresh and exciting experience to the audience."
